MMDS means Microwave Multipoint Distribution System; it has been developed as a cheaper alternative or support to the cable TV (CATV). MMDS has revealed extremely useful for sheltered area coverage, proprietary Tv distribution, Pay-TV point to point TV system. This multichannel transmitter has been designed to distribute a limited number of channels (typical 8, max 10) to small distance area (typical 5 Km). The desired TV channels may come from a terretrial transmitter, as well as from satellite or TV studios. The different channels, in the VHF/UHF band, feed the inside Up-converter module. The following RF chain amplifies and filters the signals. The 2.5 - 2.7 GHz output frequency is set according to the most European Countries standard. A dedicated down converter on each receiving antenna converts again the received microwave signals to the desired VHF/UHF TV channels.
